Homeowners are becoming more educated about building their dream homes.  In the old days, homeowners were dependant upon the contractor to build their house the way he thought it should be built.  Now, this is a lot of trust the homeowner has to put into a contractor who really may not know that much, or at least, does not keep in touch with the latest technological advances.

Homeowners today are educating themselves via the Internet.  The Internet is a very powerful tool that has a lot of useful information.  Because of the information provided on the Internet, homeowners are now telling the contractors what they want in their new home instead of relying on the past building experience of the contractor.  A prime example of this is Spray Foam Insulation.

The graph below shows the results of a study that was conducted by the Cahners Residential Group on home buyers interested in various upgrades.  Respondents were asked to select the 3 most important upgrades.  Energy efficiency and improved indoor air quality were rated # 1 and # 3, respectively.
